A Comparative Analysis of Hadiths Concerning Political Corruption in the End Times and Contemporary Events.

Introduction

Regarding the catastrophic state of the time before the appearance of the Qa’im of Ahl al-Muhammad (note), there are numerous reports and hadiths narrated from the Infallibles (peace be upon them). They pertain to widespread and pervasive corruptions in all domains—social, political, ethical and cultural.
Among these reports and narratives, many have already occurred; this is not a mere claim or a probability, but thanks to the widespread technologies of the information age, shocking scenes of crimes by criminals, oppression by tyrants, corruption and oppression by rulers, etc., have been projected onto the screens of televisions, laptops, mobile phones, and computers of people around the world and circulated across various social networks and platforms. Perhaps the veracity of such narratives used to be suspect or deemed exaggerated. Yet, by observing the events of the past few decades, especially in recent years, we realize that these narratives were not as inflated as they seemed.
In any case, this article aims to make a comparative analysis between what has reached us in the form of narrations and written prophecies from the Infallibles (peace be upon them) and the events of the present time. It should be noted that the approach of this article is limited to political and moral corruptions. I hope to be able, in due course, to address widespread corruptions in the social spheres of end-time societies. The number of hadiths that report broad social corruption in the end times is large. In this article, as a sample we will limit ourselves only to two narrations.

1 - The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

“In the end times a severe calamity will come upon my nation from the rulers, the like of which has never been heard.”(1)
Although, unfortunately, the calamities that corrupt and tyrannical rulers have inflicted upon the people of their own lands and upon other lands and countries are not limited to the end times, as this narration from the blessed lips of the Prophet (peace be upon him) reports, the calamities that in the end times are imposed on the Ummah of the Prophet of Islam by this oppressive minority are unprecedented. By examining the grievous and crippling events that have befallen Muslims in recent decades and aligning them with this Hadith of the noble Prophet, we conclude that it is not unlikely that the current time is the end times; hence we should await the appearance of the awaited Mahdi.

A – The Zionist Regime:

The relentless, day-and-night crimes that the Zionist regime has committed against Muslims worldwide and especially against the Palestinian people since its founding in 1948 to the present are the most evident manifestation of the aforementioned narration. The history of this regime is filled with assassination, killing of children, genocide, sieges, oppression, deceit, war, and bloodshed. A regime that, backed by the wealth and power of Western countries, especially the United States, has in its record a collection of crimes and the bloodiest humanitarian catastrophes.
These are a brief review of the black record of Israeli Zionists:

- Assassination:

Let us first define the meaning of the word assassination. Assassination means killing or attempting to kill a prominent or influential individual in a deliberate, planned, and usually covert manner, due to that person’s beliefs, political position, religious, social, or scientific significance. The difference from ordinary murder is that murder can result from personal enmity or an accident.
But assassination is always purposeful and organized, and usually behind it are groups, political organizations, or intelligence services. In simple terms, assassination means killing someone whose thoughts and existence are deemed dangerous or disruptive to the interests of a group or power.
With the above explanations, perhaps assassinating a person who obstructs the goals of a political group or state might seem justifiable, but the reality is that assassination, besides being, in the eyes of most people, an inherently vile and deplorable act, when aligned with evil and oppressive aims such as seizing the homeland of a defenseless people like the Palestinians, becomes far worse, dirtier, and more abhorrent. Below is a list of some assassinations that were carried out directly by Israel or by agents of Israel:

1- Sameera Mousa, an Egyptian scientist and atomic physicist, was assassinated in the United States on August 15, 1952, in a car accident.
2- Heinz Kroog, a German missile scientist, disappeared from his Munich office on September 11, 1962, and was never seen again. Kroog, like several other veterans, worked on the Nazi missile program for the Egyptian government of Gamal Abdel Nasser.
3- Samir Najib, an Egyptian nuclear scientist, was assassinated in 1967 in a car accident in Detroit, USA.
4- Yahya Al-Mishad, one of the leading Egyptian atomic scientists who worked on Iraq’s atomic program, was assassinated in the Meridien Hotel in Paris on June 13, 1980, with multiple knife wounds to the head and body.

5- Saeed Badir, an Egyptian scientist in space and missile research, an electronics and radar specialist, was thrown from the top floor of the building where he resided in 1988 in Alexandria, and died instantly.
6- Sayyid Abbas al-Musawi, former Secretary-General of Hezbollah in Lebanon, was assassinated on February 16, 1992. He was in a car with his wife and his 5-year-old son near his birthplace when hit by a missile from an Israeli Apache helicopter; all were killed instantly.
7- Fathi Shaqaqi, Secretary-General and founder of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad Movement, was assassinated on October 26, 1995 by Mossad. Shaqaqi had traveled to Libya for a conference about Palestine. On his return, during a stop on the island of Malta, he stayed at the Depalma Hotel in Malta. In one of the streets near the hotel, two Mossad motorcyclists approached him and fired several shots at close range to his head and neck.

8- Ahmad Yasin, a Palestinian politician and leader of Hamas, who founded the Palestinian Nationalist and Islamist militant movement Hamas in 1987, was assassinated on March 22, 2004 by the Israeli regime. Yasin, who was paralyzed and seated in a wheelchair, was targeted by a magnetic and drone-guided explosive that exploded on his wheelchair as he was being moved to a vehicle, killing him and several of his guards.
9- Abdul-Aziz Rantisi. After Ahmed Yasin, Hamas leadership was passed to Abdul-Aziz Rantisi, but he was assassinated on April 28, 2004 by Israeli security forces. Like Yasin, he was struck by a guided missile directed by the Israeli army.
10 - Ardeshir Hosseinpour was a scientist and assistant professor at the university, specializing in electromagnetism. He was also one of the scientists involved in Iran’s nuclear program. He was assassinated on January 16, 2007, by radioactive gas poisoning in the faculty dormitory at Shiraz University.

Ahmad-Yasin

11- Imad Mughniyeh was a military commander of Lebanon’s Hezbollah, who was assassinated on February 12, 2008, in a car explosion in Damascus by Israel.
13- Masoud Ali-Mohammadi was an Iranian nuclear scientist with a PhD in physics, specializing in elementary particles. He was assassinated on January 12, 2010, with a remote-controlled bomb placed in his car at his home.
14- Mahmoud al-Mabhouh was one of the leaders of Hamas. He was assassinated in Dubai on January 19, 2010, by a 27-member Mossad team in a highly coordinated operation. After entering al-Mabhouh’s room and injecting him with a paralytic syringe, they suffocated him using a pillow. The shocking details of this assassination were later revealed in the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth.
15- Majid Shahriari was an Iranian physicist and nuclear scientist who was assassinated on November 29, 2011. This occurred when several motorcyclists attached explosives to his personal car.
16- Fereydoon Abbasi, an Iranian nuclear engineer and military figure, was targeted in the same assassination as Majid Shahriari on November 29, 2011, and was one of the few who survived. He and his wife managed to get out of the car moments before the bomb, attached to their vehicle by a motorcyclist, exploded. Both were, however, seriously injured.
17- Mostafa Ahmadi-Roshan, an Iranian nuclear scientist and commercial deputy at the Natanz nuclear site, was assassinated in Tehran on January 11, 2012. Like Majid Shahriari, he was killed by explosives attached to his personal car by several motorcyclists.
18- Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, an Iranian nuclear scientist and military figure, was assassinated on November 27, 2020, in Damavand. First, a Nissan car exploded near Fakhrizadeh’s vehicle, and then the attackers fired at him using an automatic machine gun equipped with artificial intelligence. None of the assassins were present at the scene; the operation was carried out remotely using advanced remote-control technology and AI.
19 - Yahya Sinwar, a Palestinian politician, was assassinated in Gaza on February 18, 2024, by the Israeli regime .
20- Ismail Haniyeh, head of Hamas’ political bureau, was assassinated in Tehran by Israel on July 31, 2024.
21- Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, the third Secretary-General of Lebanon’s Hezbollah, was assassinated following an airstrike on Hezbollah’s command center on September 27, 2024.
22- Sayyed Hashem Safiuddin, a Lebanese politician and one of Hezbollah’s leaders, was assassinated in Lebanon in October 2024, just one month after the assassination of Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah.
Below are the names of Iranian military commanders and nuclear scientists who were all assassinated on June 13 and 14, 2025, by Israeli drones, most of them at their private residences along with one or more family members:

Deir Yasin massacres

Massacres:

1- Massacre in the village of Deir Yassin – April 9, 1948 – Number of casualties: between 250 and 360, mostly women and children.
2- Massacre in the village of Baladeh al-Sheikh – December 31, 1947 – Number of casualties: approximately 60.
3- Massacre in the Haifa market – March 6, 1938 – Number of casualties: 18.

Genocide in Gaza

Genocide:

The largest and most horrific genocide in Palestinian history is the one-sided war launched by the Israeli army under Prime Minister Netanyahu in Gaza since 2023. According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, as of August 18, 2025, more than 62,000 people, including women and children, have lost their lives in the Gaza war.
4,365 of the deceased are infants under one year old, 6,101 are children aged 1 to 5, 5,124 are children aged 6 to 12, and 5,442 are adolescents aged 13 to 17.

Famine in Gaza

Famine:

In addition to those killed in the bombings of Gaza, another crime has been imposed on its residents, with children being the most affected victims.
Since June 2007, all land, sea, and air borders of Gaza have been under Israeli control, and the movement of goods and people has been severely restricted. Israel’s declared objective was to prevent the entry of weapons and military materials into Gaza, but the blockade has had a severe impact on the lives of civilians and access to food, medicine, and fuel. The blockade has continued

over the years with strict limitations and occasional temporary openings. Currently, 40,000 infants under one year old are at risk of gradual death due to the blockade and shortage of infant formula.

B – The United States:

Since the United States has been a 100% unconditional supporter of all the crimes that Israel has committed throughout its history, the U.S. regime can be considered an unrivaled accomplice in all massacres, genocides, assassinations, famines, and, in short, all the evil acts of Israel.
Beyond these supports, the U.S. is also responsible for the blood of millions of people around the world, from Vietnam to Japan, Afghanistan, and Iraq.
According to the narration of the Holy Prophet of Islam regarding the oppression that will befall his Ummah, i.e., the Muslims, in the end times, we will only mention the massacres carried out by the U.S. military in Afghanistan and Iraq.

1 – Afghanistan:

On October 7, 2001, following the September 11 terrorist attacks, the United States launched Operation “Enduring Freedom” against the Taliban and Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan. The main objective was to destroy Al-Qaeda and overthrow the Taliban regime. However, as usual, the most severe impacts of the war affected civilians, especially the weaker segments of society, namely children and women.
According to various reports, the number of Afghan civilian casualties in this war exceeded 46,000, many of whom were killed in airstrikes and military operations.

However, as usual, the most severe impacts of the war affected civilians, especially the weaker segments of society, namely children and women. According to various reports, the number of Afghan civilian casualties in this war exceeded 46,000, many of whom were killed in airstrikes and military operations.
In 2014, U.S. combat forces officially withdrew from Afghanistan, but the U.S. military presence continued in the form of advisors and special forces until 2021.
During this period, airstrikes and counter-terrorism operations continued, resulting in the deaths of a large number of Afghan civilians.

2 – Iraq:

On March 20, 2003, the United States, together with a coalition of the United Kingdom, Australia, and Poland, launched Operation “Iraqi Freedom,” with the declared aim of disarming Iraq and overthrowing Saddam Hussein’s regime.
This operation involved extensive air and ground attacks, resulting in the destruction of the Iraqi government and military within three weeks. During this time, coalition forces occupied large parts of Iraq, but sporadic resistance from Iraqi forces and militias continued. In the following years, the war continued irregularly with the presence of various groups, leading to significant human casualties and widespread destruction.
According to various reports, the number of Iraqi civilian deaths is estimated between 210,000 and 654,965, many of whom died as a result of airstrikes, bombings, and street clashes.
In 2011, U.S. combat forces officially withdrew from Iraq, but the American military presence continued in the form of advisors and special forces until 2014. During this period, airstrikes and counter-terrorism operations continued, causing the deaths of many Iraqi civilians.
The crimes committed by the U.S. military against both military personnel and civilians in Iraq are among the most humiliating acts carried out in the name of “liberating Iraq” and establishing democracy over a Muslim country in recent decades.

2 – Imam Ali (peace be upon him) said:

«A time will come for people when only the script and writing of the Quran will remain, and from Islam only its name. Their mosques will be full and flourishing, but devoid of guidance. The jurists of that time will be the worst jurists under the sky; sedition will rise from them and return to them» (3).
The Quran is a divine book that teaches all of humanity, regardless of ethnicity, skin color, financial ability, or other differences, the way of humanity and righteous living. It lays out a step-by-step roadmap for virtue to all members of society.
It is a book whose teachings, whether in the form of glad tidings for the believers, warnings to the oppressors, direct and explicit statements, or illustrative events, proclaim the principles of ethics. From the minutest matters, such as children’s behavior toward their parents, avoiding arrogance and boasting, refraining from backbiting and slander, not consuming others’ property—especially that of orphans—proper conduct with spouses, not burying children alive(4) , avoiding heinous acts such as theft, adultery, sodomy, etc., to the broader principles like not committing oppression, resisting oppression, fighting against tyrants, defending the rights of the oppressed, refraining from embezzling public funds, and more.
In general, the Quran is a book full of ethical teachings. The Prophet of Islam said: “Indeed, I have been sent to perfect moral character”(5) .
Unfortunately, the Quran and its human-building teachings experience the greatest neglect in Islamic countries themselves. It is even observed that people in some non-Islamic countries exhibit ethical behavior closer to the teachings of the Quran than some Muslims.
There is a famous quote attributed to Sayyed Jamal al-Din Asadabadi (6): “I went to the West and saw Islam but did not see Muslims. I returned to the East and saw Muslims but did not see Islam.” What Imam Ali (peace be upon him) meant by saying that only the script of the Quran would remain is that people will not act upon the Quran. One only needs to observe the rulers and people in countries claiming Islam to understand the truth of this statement.
Below are a few examples of fatwas(7) issued by Sunni Muftis and Wahhabis, which are in complete contradiction with the verses of the Quran.

Muftis and Anti-Quranic Fatwas:

Before addressing this topic, it is important to note that issuing rulings contrary to the verses and teachings of the Quran does not mean that they are accepted by all Sunni Muslims. Many of these fatwas have sparked controversy and opposition even among followers of Sunni Islam and Wahhabism. However, the fact that jurists of a particular sect or school have issued such bizarre rulings is noteworthy:
A - Washing meat is an innovation; during the time of the Prophet (peace be upon him), his companions cooked and ate meat without washing it (8).
B - Eating the flesh of jinn is permissible if available.
Muhammad Al-Zoghbi, an Egyptian Wahhabi preacher, in a fatwa published in 2011, declared that eating the flesh of jinn is permissible if accessible. He argued that jinn can appear in the form of animals such as camels or quadrupeds, and since eating the meat of these animals is permissible, eating the flesh of jinn is therefore allowed.
C - Fasting is not obligatory for people in regions with frequent power outages(9).
"Ramadhan is the (month) in which was sent down the Qur'an, as a guide to mankind, also clear (Signs) for guidance and judgment (Between right and wrong). So every one of you who is present (at his home) during that month should spend it in fasting, but if any one is ill, or on a journey, the prescribed period (Should be made up) by days later. Allah intends every facility for you; He does not want to put to difficulties. (He wants you) to complete the prescribed period, and to glorify Him in that He has guided you; and perchance ye shall be grateful." (Surah Al-Baqarah, Ayah 185)
As can be seen, Allah clearly declares fasting in Ramadan obligatory in the Quran, with only the exceptions of being on a journey or being ill. It is also emphasized that the number of days missed due to travel or illness must be made up on other days.
Although Islam is a dynamic religion and some of its rulings are updated by jurists and scholars according to the advancements of the times and technology, there are certain rulings in both Shia and Sunni jurisprudence that are unchangeable, such as the obligation of fasting in Ramadan. For example, in Al-Sharh Al-Mumti’ by Ibn Uthaymeen, in the discussion on the obligation of Ramadan fasting, it is stated that fasting in Ramadan is obligatory for all adult and sane Muslims, with no modification or alteration (10).
D - who dies from AIDS is considered a martyr according to Islam(11).
Compare this ruling with the exalted status that martyrs have before God, according to the explicit text of the Quran: “And never think of those who have been killed in the way of Allah as dead. Rather, they are alive, receiving provision from their Lord” (Surah Al-Imran, Ayah 169).
E - Homosexuality is permissible.
Daei Abdullah, Imam of the Noor Al-Islah Mosque in Washington, claimed in a speech that homosexuality is permissible. He admitted that he himself had experienced it since adolescence and had relationships with four men in his life.
It is enough to refer to the Quranic verses revealed regarding the fate of the people of Lot, a people who were involved in the filthy act of sodomy:
"And We rained upon them a rain [of stones]; so see how was the end of the criminals" (Surah Al-A’raf, Ayah 84)
"O Abraham! Leave this [matter]; indeed, the command of your Lord has come, and surely they[people of Lot] will be punished with a punishment from which there is no return." (Surah Hud, Ayah 76) F -Wearing trousers is not permissible for women, even in front of other women or their husbands (12).

Activities of Cabarets and Alcohol Bars:

One of the main and greatest teachings of the Quran is the fight against corruption—in all its forms, whether moral and cultural, or social and political. Of course, it is inevitable that corruption exists among people and even governments in all Islamic countries. In some countries it is less, and in others more. However, when manifestations of corruption become legalized, it is a pitiful symbol of the corruption of the rulers of Muslim societies.
In some Islamic countries, such as the United Arab Emirates and Turkey, cabaret activities with live music and dance in mixed settings, as well as the operation of alcohol bars without restrictions throughout the country, are legal.
In some other Islamic countries, cabaret and alcohol bar activities are legal but limited only to certain cities, such as Egypt, Jordan, and Syria.
In a number of Islamic countries, such as Oman and Kuwait, similar activities are legal only in certain hotels or tourist centers and in a restricted manner.

Recently, Saudi Arabia—which is the land of the Quranic revelation, the birthplace of the Prophet of Islam, and home to the Kaaba, the Qibla of Muslims worldwide—has, in the name of moving toward modernity, violated explicit Quranic laws and begun issuing licenses for cabaret activities and alcohol bars in a limited manner.
This is while Allah says in the Quran: “O you who have believed, indeed, intoxicants, gambling, [sacrificing to] stones, and divination arrows are an abomination of Satan’s handiwork, so avoid them that you may be successful.” (Surah Al-Ma’idah, Ayah 90)

Jennifer Lopez in Riaz

One might argue that, in the Quran, only wine is explicitly prohibited and other intoxicants are not mentioned, so there is no religious reason to forbid them. This question was also asked of Imam Musa Kazim (peace be upon him). He replied: “Allah, Mighty and Majestic, did not prohibit wine because of its name, but because of its consequences. Therefore, anything that has the consequences of wine is also prohibited” (13).
While the obligation of hijab for women is clearly and explicitly stated in Ayah 31 of Surah An-Nur and Ayah 59 of Surah Al-Ahzab—and is one of the few verses that prescribes a legal ruling almost in precise detail—non- or partially-clothed women, who are undoubtedly among the most valuable of Allah’s creations in existence, are still publicly displayed before men and This occurs legally and with government approval in countries where the majority of the population is Muslim.

Usury in Banks:

Usury (Riba) in the terminology of the Quran and Islamic jurisprudence refers to illegitimate greed in transactions or loans. That is, any profit or extra gain obtained without work, effort, or legitimate risk from money or goods is considered usury.
Allah explicitly declares usury forbidden and a great sin in the Quran:
"Allah has permitted trade and forbidden usury." (Surah Al-Baqarah, Ayah 275)
In some verses, the Quran uses the harshest expressions regarding usury, to the extent that it says usurers are at war with Allah and His Messenger:
"O you who have believed, fear Allah and give up what remains of interest, if you should be believers. And if you do not, then be informed of war from Allah and His Messenger..." (Surah Al-Baqarah, Ayahs 278–279)
However, banking in most Islamic countries is based on interest (Riba). Although in many Islamic countries banks have been established with Islamic-style transactions, the dominant banking system is still managed in the style of Western countries.
Even in Iran, which is the pioneer and founder of Islamic banking, although loan contracts with recipients are ostensibly based on Islamic principles and Sharia-compliant transactions, the Islamic structure of the transactions remains only superficial. The profit that is actually taken from the loan recipient is, in practice, the same as usury (Riba).

Compromise of Rulers with Oppressors:

The Quran contains 6,236 verses. Out of these, approximately 200 to 250 verses are dedicated to armed jihad and fighting against oppressors and tyrants. In the Quran, injustice (zulm) means defying justice and violating the rights of others.
Almost all the wars led by the Prophet Muhammad, from the beginning of his mission until his passing, and those led by Imam Ali during his brief rule, arose from these Quranic teachings. Neither the Prophet nor his family ever submitted to humiliation or compromise with oppressors.
However, the rulers of most Islamic countries in recent times have sought compromise with the most oppressive, tyrannical, and bloodthirsty regime—namely, Israel. The oppressed people of Palestine, who belong to the Arab and Islamic world, are being massacred before their eyes, while these rulers engage in meetings and conferences to normalize relations with Israel.

Egypt, which under President Gamal Abdel Nasser was one of the first countries to stand against Israel, under President Anwar Sadat became the first country to turn its back on the oppressed Palestinian people. It extended a hand of compromise toward Israel and, after the Camp David negotiations with Menachem Begin (Prime Minister of Israel) and Jimmy Carter (President of the United States), signed the Egypt-Israel Peace Treaty on March 26, 1979, in Washington, officially recognizing Israel.

Camp-David

After Egypt, Jordan became the second Arab country to sign a peace treaty with Israel in 1994. Other Arab countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Sudan, and Morocco have also begun normalizing relations with Israel in recent years, starting from 2020, in what is known as the Abraham Accords.
Although other Arab countries, such as Saudi Arabia, have never formally recognized Israel, they have never actively opposed it either, limiting their actions to occasional statements against Israel. The only Islamic countries that have never entered into peace with Israel and have consistently opposed this regime are Iran, Syria and, more recently, Yemen.

Mosques in Islamic Countries:

Imam Ali (peace be upon him) in the mentioned hadith said: "...Their mosques are flourishing, but devoid of guidance..."
At no point in history have there been as many magnificent and grand mosques in the Islamic world as today.

A- The Grand Mosque in Mecca, Saudi Arabia: the largest mosque in the world and the site of the Kaaba, the House of God. Its area is approximately 365,000 square meters, accommodating more than two million pilgrims during Hajj.
The total cost of the expansion project of Masjid al-Haram, which began in 2007, is estimated at 80 billion Saudi riyals, equivalent to 21 billion USD. The project includes the construction of tunnels, bridges, intersections, and related infrastructure.
Its cooling systems, with a capacity of 155,000 tons of refrigeration, are the largest air-conditioning system in the world. This includes 32 chillers, each with a capacity of 1,476 kW.

Masjid-al-Haram

Reports indicate that the monthly electricity bill of Masjid al-Haram is about 15 million Saudi riyals (around 4 million USD).

B- The Prophet’s Mosque in Medina, Saudi Arabia - the burial place of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and Abu Bakr, the first caliph of Sunnis. Its area is approximately 160,000 square meters, accommodating over one million worshippers.
C- Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca, Morocco – with an area of about 90,000 square meters and a capacity of more than 100,000 worshippers. Its minaret, at 210 meters high, is the tallest minaret among all mosques in the world.
D- Faisal Mosque in Islamabad, Pakistan – with an area of 50,000 square meters and a capacity of more than 100,000 worshippers.

Masjid-al-Nabi

E- Al-Fateh Mosque in Manama, Bahrain – with an area of 84,000 square meters and a capacity of 70,000 worshippers. The mosque’s dome, with a diameter of 46 meters and a height of 55 meters, is the largest dome among Muslim mosques worldwide.
F- Imam Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab Mosque in Doha, Qatar – with an area of 175,164 square meters and a capacity of about 30,000 worshippers. Reports suggest that the construction of this grand mosque cost about 420 million Qatari riyals, equivalent to approximately 115 million USD. (17)

G- the perspective of beauty, however, many architecture and tourism experts recognize the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, as one of the most beautiful mosques in the world. Its architecture is a blend of traditional Islamic and modern styles, featuring white marble, glazed tiles, grand domes, and tall minarets. The mosque can host 40,000 worshippers.

Ben-Zaed Mosque

Inside it lies the largest hand-woven carpet in the world, measuring 57,000 square meters. This carpet, woven in one piece by 1,200 of Iran’s most skilled weavers, contains 2.2 billion knots, weighs 35 tons, and is estimated to be worth 8 million USD.
The above-mentioned cases were only a short list of the largest and most expensive mosques in the world. The astronomical amounts spent on mosques across Muslim countries truly reach staggering levels.

Greatest-Carpet

According to data presented at an international conference at the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture (Ithra) in Saudi Arabia, the total number of mosques worldwide is estimated at approximately 3.6 million. (14)
Of course, one cannot deny the need for infrastructural projects to expand certain mosques such as Masjid al-Haram and Masjid an-Nabawi, which annually host millions of pilgrims. However, the excessive focus on beautification and decoration of mosques is, in reality, devoid of spiritual depth and far removed from Qur’anic teachings.
Without doubt, one of the most serious priorities of Islam is the eradication of poverty within societies. But have the countries that host the most beautiful and largest mosques in the world truly succeeded in this mission? Have their efforts genuinely and effectively contributed to poverty alleviation? Below is a brief, report-style overview of poverty in three Muslim countries as examples:

Poverty in Saudi Arabia:
Different estimates indicate that between 12% to 25% of the Saudi population (around 2 to 4 million people) live below the poverty line, with a monthly income of less than about $530, or under $17 per day. A UN report stated that in 2021, about 13.6% of Saudi Arabia’s population was living below the poverty line. (15)

Poverty in the United Arab Emirates (UAE):
The poverty line in the UAE, based on local standards, is defined as 80 dirhams (≈ $22) per day. It is estimated that about 19.5% of the UAE’s resident population lives on less than 80 dirhams per day and thus fall under the poverty line. (16) According to the Statista Institute, 6.11% of this population lives on less than $2.15 per day. Among this poor population, around 17% are official migrants, 76% are undocumented migrants and refugees, and about 7% are Emirati citizens.

Poverty in Iran:
About 32% of Iran’s population – nearly 28 million people – live under the absolute poverty line, unable to meet even their most basic needs. Additionally, 30% live under the relative poverty line, while about 6% (≈ 5 million people) suffer from extreme poverty.
- poverty is only one form of the emptiness of mosques from true Islamic teachings. It seems that the number of mosques and their adornment in Muslim countries serve merely as a cover for the misuse

Poverty in Iran

of the public treasury (Bayt al-Mal) by rulers and statesmen. The inequality in income distribution in Islamic countries shows the peak of negligence toward the Qur’an’s commands and a departure from Islamic rulings.
For example, 10% of the Iranian population owns about 50–60% of the nation’s total wealth and assets, while the remaining wealth is distributed among the other 90% of society. The lowest income decile, which includes about 50% of Iran’s population, controls only 5–7% of the country’s wealth.
Meanwhile, there are about 85,000 mosques in Iran, meaning one mosque for every 3,000 Iranians.
Regardless of whether these mosques were built with government budgets or public donations, according to the prophecy of Imam Ali (AS), they are devoid of true Islamic teachings. Otherwise, such severe economic hardships would not have afflicted the people of these countries.

Financial crimes and economic corruption

Another sign of the accuracy of Imam Ali’s prophecy regarding mosques being devoid of Qur’anic teachings is the level of financial crimes and economic corruption in Muslim countries. The world’s top five countries in terms of economic corruption are Libya, the United Arab Emirates, Iran, Iraq, and Lebanon. Libya and the UAE rank highest with a score of 9.50 under the “financial crimes” sub-index. Iran, Iraq, and Lebanon follow with a score of 9.00 each. (18) As can be seen, the top five countries in financial crimes are all Muslim nations.
By carefully reflecting on the teachings of the Qur’an and the instructions of the Prophet of Islam, Imam Ali, and the eleven Imams after him, one realizes the deep chasm between divine commandments and the practices of rulers—and in some cases, the people—of nations that claim Islam. This chasm is so vast that it is consuming all the resources of Muslims worldwide.
